Classified ads - old media still holds up

Classified ads are still the market dominated by old media but not as much as it used to. Despite increased presence of online ad boards, like Craigslist and ad platforms, like Edgeio, the newspapers are still representing 80% of the $20 billion market. The sheer size of the market leaves enough place both for giants and small niche players. Almost every popular blog features today its own job board. Mobile classifieds will be probably the next market segment that will rip its share of action from old media pie.
Video classifieds is another niche where old media will lose another piece of action to online market. Techcrunch reports here about HotSwap, new startup targeting used car market with its video classifieds. We have already covered video resume. If HotSwap offers platform for used car video classifieds, it does not take long before HotSwap or some other site would offer real estate video classifieds.

Great stats! These numbers would be more staggering if Craigslist wasn’t free.
